Hi, you’re listening to Malaria Stories with Annemarie Quinn and Code Sangala on Fight Malaria.

Here’s a story from ‘Humans of Malawi’ about a lady who hasn’t been sleeping inside the house for as long as she remembers.

She sleeps outside under a mosquito net because it is safe. In Nchalo, the weather is very hot and she feels safer sleeping outside. It’s been a culture of hers for as long as she remembers.

Her husband, on the other hand, feels very differently about this exercise, so he sleeps inside. The lady takes her baby and sleeps outside because of the heat.

If you come to Chikwawa at night and walk around the villages you will see many people sleeping outside under a mosquito net, it’s not strange at all, but it is safe.

Thanks for listening and tune in next week!
